DAVID CUTLER

This site is here to inform about the life, career and recordings of Italian tenor, Beniamino Gigli (1890-1957).            

An amateur tenor, David Cutler studied singing with the Polish bass, Marian Nowakowski, who was himself a pupil of Adamo Didur. He sang in concert in Dublin, London and Perugia. He reviews new releases of classical music for the U.S. publication, Fanfare. In late 2021, he took on responsibility for finding a home for the Beniamino Gigli Archive belonging to the late Mark Ricaldone. It is now housed by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. He has compiled this website and composed the new Live Recordings of Beniamino Gigli discography for which he won the Association for Recorded Sound Collection (ARSC) 2022 award for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research.

 Cutler was company Archivist at Reuters News until 2021. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he qualified in Information Science and started his career in London’s Imperial War Museum. In 1980, he joined the BBC as a researcher and seven years later, in 1987, joined Reuters, running the Editorial Reference Unit which supplied research and copy for editors and journalists around the world. In 2014, he became assistant Archivist at Reuters News before managing the Archive from 2017.
